“It is an honor to have been summoned to integrate the advisory committee and to contribute with concrete proposals to promote an ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence in Chile,” are the words of the academic of the School of Government, María Paz Hermosilla, who was called by the Minister of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation, Andrés Couve, to integrate the Committee of Experts that will support the work of the Government for the elaboration of a National Artificial Intelligence Policy, committed for April 2020.

“The government stated that an axis of our work will be proposed in ethics and regulation. Having relieved this is very important, because it is necessary to incorporate ethical reflection from the design of artificial intelligence projects, so that they respect privacy, avoid discrimination, and are transparent, ”says María Paz, who is one of the four women who make up the team of the 10 experts chosen.

Hermosilla is a Master in Public Administration from the University of New York and a journalist at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. Founder and director of the GobLab UAI, public innovation laboratory of the Government School of the Adolfo Ibáñez University. She is the Academic Director of the Big Data Diploma for Public Policies. His area of ​​specialization is public innovation, specifically how technology and data science transforms government. She is a teacher and researcher in data ethics, and co-author of “The Ethical Data Management” of the Inter-American Development Bank.

The expert will participate in this committee with the aim of promoting an action plan and an Artificial Intelligence policy that contributes to Chile successfully inserting itself in the technological revolution with innovations applicable in fields such as health, education and production.
